Job Description

INVO is seeking an LPN in Centralia, WA. The ideal candidate will provide 1:1 services to the student in an educational setting. The LPN is responsible for delivering direct medical care, monitoring the student’s health status, and ensuring that the student’s medical needs are met throughout the school day. The LPN will work closely with school staff, the student’s family, and healthcare providers to ensure the student’s well-being and safety in the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct Medical Care:
    • Provide 1:1 nursing care to a student with medical needs during the school day, including administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and managing any medical equipment (e.g., feeding tubes, ventilators).
    • Assist the student with daily activities such as toileting, feeding, mobility, and positioning as required by the student’s medical condition.
    • Respond promptly to any medical emergencies and provide appropriate first aid or emergency care as needed.
  • Monitoring and Documentation:
    • Continuously monitor the student’s health status and document any changes in condition, treatments provided, and any incidents or concerns.
    • Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, including daily logs, medication administration records, and communication notes.
    • Report any concerns or changes in the student’s condition to the supervising Registered Nurse (RN), healthcare providers, and the student’s family.
  • Collaboration and Communication:
    • Work closely with teachers, school administrators, and other school staff to ensure that the student’s medical needs are integrated into the educational environment.
    • Communicate regularly with the student’s family and healthcare providers to coordinate care and share updates on the student’s health and progress.
    • Participate in meetings related to the student’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or 504 Plan, providing input on medical needs and accommodations.
  • Compliance and Safety:
    • Ensure that all nursing care is provided in accordance with state nursing practice laws, school district policies, and the student’s healthcare plan.
    • Follow infection control protocols and maintain a clean and safe environment for the student.
    • Adhere to confidentiality regulations regarding the student’s health information.
  • Support Services:
    • Assist with the implementation of the student’s IEP or 504 Plan by providing necessary health-related accommodations and services.
    • Provide health education to the student, as appropriate, to promote independence and self-care skills.

Qualifications:

  • Education and Certification:
    • Completion of an accredited LPN program.
    • Valid Washington LPN license.
    • Current CPR and First Aid certification.
  • Experience:
    • Prior experience in pediatric nursing or working with children with special healthcare needs is preferred.
    • Experience in a school or educational setting is a plus.
  • Skills and Competencies:
    • Strong clinical skills in providing nursing care to children with medical needs.
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, families, and school staff.
    • Compassionate, patient, and able to provide care with sensitivity to the student’s needs.
    • Ability to respond calmly and effectively in emergencies.
