Requirements:
- Certification and Licensing:
- Must have 3.3 or higher EIPA Score
- State of North Carolina certification or licensure for educational interpreters, if applicable.
- Educational Background:
- Bachelor’s degree in ASL/English Interpretation, Deaf Education, or a related field preferred.
- Completion of an interpreter training program.
- Experience:
- Previous experience working as a sign language interpreter in an educational setting is highly desirable.
- Experience with a variety of sign systems and modes of communication used by Deaf and Hard of Hearing individuals.
- Skills:
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and other sign systems as needed.
- Strong understanding of Deaf culture and the educational challenges faced by Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and collaborate with various stakeholders.
- Personal Attributes:
- Patience, adaptability, and a strong commitment to supporting student success.
- Professionalism and adherence to ethical standards of conduct.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods while interpreting.
- Sufficient dexterity and stamina to perform interpretation tasks throughout the school day.
