Full Time OT needed for school district in Claysville PA
Job Description
INVO is looking for a dynamic Occupational Therapist to provide full time services to children in Claysville, PA. The Full-Time Occupational Therapist (OT) provides services to students who have physical, sensory, or cognitive disabilities that affect their ability to perform daily activities within the educational environment. The OT works to improve students’ functional skills, helping them to achieve greater independence and success in school. The therapist collaborates with teachers, parents, and other educational staff to develop and implement individualized education programs (IEPs) and provide targeted interventions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assessment and Evaluation:
- Conduct comprehensive assessments to identify students’ needs in areas such as fine motor skills, sensory processing, visual-motor integration, and self-care.
- Evaluate the impact of the students’ disabilities on their ability to participate in educational activities and routines.
- Participate in the development of Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) by providing input on goals, accommodations, and interventions.
- Intervention and Therapy:
- Develop and implement individualized intervention plans to address the specific needs of students.
- Provide direct occupational therapy services to students, either individually or in small groups, focusing on skills such as handwriting, self-care, sensory processing, and functional mobility.
- Adapt and modify the school environment to accommodate students’ needs, including recommending and implementing assistive devices and technology.
- Collaboration and Consultation:
- Work closely with teachers, special educators, physical therapists, speech therapists, and other school staff to integrate occupational therapy strategies into the classroom setting.
- Provide training and support to school staff on how to implement accommodations and interventions.
- Collaborate with parents and caregivers to support the generalization of skills across settings.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of assessments, therapy sessions, progress notes, and communications with parents and staff.
- Ensure that all services are delivered in compliance with federal and state regulations, including IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act).
- Participate in IEP meetings, providing professional input and recommendations.
- Professional Development:
- Stay current with best practices and advancements in the field of occupational therapy through ongoing professional development.
- Attend school district meetings, workshops, and training sessions as required.
Qualifications:
- Education and Certification:
- Master’s degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited program.
- Valid Pennsylvania state license to practice as an Occupational Therapist.
- Certification from the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT).
- Experience:
- Prior experience working as an Occupational Therapist in a school setting is preferred.
- Experience in conducting evaluations and developing IEPs for students with disabilities.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong knowledge of pediatric occupational therapy practices, including sensory integration, fine motor development, and adaptive equipment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for working with students, staff, and families.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail in documentation and reporting.
Working Conditions:
- The position involves working in various school environments, which may require travel between multiple school sites within the district.
- The role may require physical activity, including assisting students with mobility and positioning.
