Full Time Aide Needed for Specialty School in Canonsburg, PA
Job Description
NVO is seeking a compassionate 1:1 aide for a specialty school program in Canonsburg PA. The aide will assist the student in achieving their academic, behavioral, and social goals under the guidance of the classroom teacher and special education staff.
Key Responsibilities:
- Individualized Support: Provide direct 1:1 assistance to the assigned student in the classroom and other school environments.
- Academic Assistance: Help the student with academic tasks, following lesson plans and providing appropriate modifications or accommodations as directed by the teacher.
- Behavioral Support: Implement behavior management strategies as outlined in the student’s Individualized Education Plan (IEP) or Behavior Support Plan (BSP).
- Physical Assistance: Assist with mobility, transitions between classes, and other physical needs as required by the student.
- Supervision: Ensure the safety and well-being of the student during the school day, including during recess, lunch, and other non-classroom activities.
- Communication: Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and parents to provide regular updates on the student’s progress and challenges.
- Documentation: Maintain records of the student’s progress, behavior, and any incidents as directed by the school’s protocols.
- Support Inclusion: Encourage the student’s participation in classroom activities and social interactions with peers to promote inclusion.
Qualifications:
- Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- AA or BA preferred
- Experience working with children, especially those with special needs, is preferred.
- Patience, compassion, and the ability to adapt to the student’s changing needs.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff.
- Preferred:
- Prior experience as a paraprofessional or 1:1 aide.
- Knowledge of behavior management techniques.
- Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
Work Schedule:
- Full-time
- School hours, Monday through Friday.
Compensation:
- Hourly rate based on experience and qualifications.
